Bari is the capital of Apulia region. It is called the “Door to the eastern world” thanks to its position that overlooks on the Adriatic sea. Its territory spreads over a plain and steep area (the so-called “Hollow of Bari”) and along 42 km of coast. It is renowned to be the town that guards Saint Nicola’s relics: such a privilege makes Bari one of the dearest worship place to the orthodox community. With its port and its university it’s the second largest southern Italian metropolis. The town consists of two parts: the old town and a large XIX century quarter (“quartiere murattiano”) on which main streets there are lots of fancy and elegant shops. The old town is nowadays the major nightlife district: you will find lots of restaurants, pubs and cafés walking around the alleyways, Piazza del Ferrarese, Piazza Mercantile and after your dinner or after your drink you can also take a walk on the seafront promenade. And for your cultural moments have a look at the two main programme’s theatres: Piccinni and Petruzzelli, this latter is considered one of the beautiful European theatre, it has been completely restored and open again to the public on 5th October 2009 after the fire that destroyed it on 1991.
