Storia comune di Mola Di Bari provincia di Bari
Some finds shows that Mola di Bari was inhabited since the Neolithic age. While other finds about a Greek or Roman foundation are still unsure. The first document where Mola is mentioned dates back to 6th June 1277 when Carl I of Anjou ordered “to make livable that territory that it’s called Mola”. So it was ruled by Anjous, Aragones, Venetians and then by Michele Vaaz, a rich Portuguese merchant that was then chase away. Later Mola followed the history of the Kingdom of Naples until the unification of Italy.

Mola di Bari faces the Adriatic sea which is the most important resource for the town. The 13 km long coast offers a clear sea and an enchanting landscape thanks to the lots of building that overlooks the sea: the stately Anjou castle, Saint Nicola’s Church, Saint Chiara convent, which now hosts the Academy of art. The old town is a lively labyrinth of narrow streets and alleyways that lead you to the sea. Besides the sea, the country offers lots of product as well: the fortified farms (“masserie”) still guards the traditions of typical dishes. By the way Mola di Bari is also renowned for the octopus’ festival which draws lots of tourists every summer.
