Monopoli faces the Adriatic sea and its port is one of the most busy ports of Apulia. Its territory spreads on a plain coastal strip that slowly rises up towards Murgia hills. The coast it’s both sandy and rocky and it’s distinguished by its clear sea, its creeks and its golden beaches. Near Monopoli there’s Capitolo, renowned for its several bathing establishments and for the nightlife. The old town decked out the port with a labyrinth of alleyways and the ancient city walls ruins. All around in the country, plunged into maquis, olive and almond trees, you will find lots of fortified farms (“masserie”), villas, churches made of rocks and “trulli”.
