Storia comune di Ruvo Di Puglia provincia di Bari
Probably the place name comes from “Rhyps”, that is the name of the coins created by the first natives of the ancient core, then turned into “Rubis” and finally into “Ruvo”. Some findings shows the presence of a first settlement in IX century BC, but it became a blooming center between the IV and III centuries BC when it traded with Magna Graecia and Etruria until the Roman domination. Later it was ruled by Byzantines, Normans, Swabians, Anjous, Aragoneses and finally by Carafa family until 1806. Then it was annexed to the Kingdom of Italy. Nowadays Ruvo is one of the most interesting place in the North of Bari for savouring typical dishes and enjoy an enchanting landscape.

Ruvo di Puglia is included in the “National Park of Murgia Upper Hills”. It stands on a territory that shows all the features of a calcareous landscape (dolines, sinkholes) and yet it shows an interesting wooden area as well. It’s a farming centre whose soils are mainly planted with vines and olive trees. In the historic centre you can admire lots of buildings, both religious and civil, in Renaissance and Baroque styles, such as the Cathedral and Palazzo Jatta.
