Storia comune di Fasano provincia di Brindisi
The settlement rose as Santa Maria di Fajano in 1088, as it looked like to be the best place for the refuges coming from the ancient Roman city of Egnathia, and after the collapse of Roman empire got the name of Fasano. Here in 1678, 300 Turks were defeated in an historical battle thanks to an apparition of the Virgin Mary, according to the legend. This event is celebrated every year with the “Scamiciata”: an historical re-enactment of the apparition and the Turks’ defeat.
Informazioni turistiche comune di Fasano provincia di Brindisi
Fasano is placed at 60 km from Brindisi port and it’s the city that marks out the border between Bari and Salento’s lands. Its territory spreads out from the hills to the Adriatic sea, plunged into
hundred-year-old olive trees and its climate is mild during the winter and hot during the summer. Here you can find a
very beautiful sea: from Savelletri, with its cliffs and bays, to the long Torre Canne sandy shore with its hotels, golf courses and
spa establishments. Whereas on the hills you will find lots of villas and “trulli” plunged into
maquis and in the old town you will take a walk around the
whitewashed little squares, arches and alleyways where history meets daily life. Nowadays Fasano attracts lots of tourists thanks to its landscapes and thanks to its
Safari Zoo Park, the families favourite destination. The city keeps alive the ancient rural traditions thanks to many
fortified farms (the so-called “masserie”) straggled along the countryside, an invaluable cultural heritage. Those who loves good cooking will enjoy the typical dishes in many restaurants or go straight on the sea savouring the
urchins with bread.
