The province of Brindisi looks up on to the Northeast of the Adriatic Sea and it is bounded by the province of Lecce and Tarentum in the Southwest; it covers the Northern part of the peninsula salentina to join a short stretch of Terra di Bari. The ground is mostly flat, rolling only in the area of the Murge. The three promontories noteworthy are Punta Penne, Capo Bianco and Capo di Torre Cavallo, where we can find the Pedagne Islands. The harbour of Brindisi is very important because yet in the past it ensured a strategic role for the economy and trade of Apulia; in fact in 1870 it represented the beginning of the so called “ Suitcase of the Indias”, that is a rapid link to Bombay and Calcutta. The economy of Brindisi knew the military and iron industry development thanks to the presence of the harbour. Now the territory aims at an agriculture and tourist retraining. The most important crops are grapevines, olive groves and wheat, as it was more than 2000 years ago. You should visit the Olive Oil Museum in Fasano, where you can see the exhibition of machines for oil production dated back from 1600 to the early years of 1900.
