The Ionian Gulf includes the coastline of Tarentum, that has no high coastline but it is full of sandy bays soaked by the crystal-clear sea and little rocky promontories. You will find yourself impressed by the transparency of the not much deep water where you can swim going offshore for tens of metres. You can go for a walk savouring the energy and healthiness of the sea. Going to the open sea you will find a world full of marine fauna. If you love child memories, you will enjoy doing beautiful necklaces made of shells from the sandy shore. By a presidential decree of 1977, the gulf has been called "historic bay" and considered an inland sea under the total jurisdiction of state. This historic title, which was set as an Italian measure for the closure of the gulf, can be recognized in the possession of the area from the territorial sovereigns rotating here over the years.
