Gallipoli stands on Salento west coast, on Ionian sea, in province of Lecce. Its name’s origin comes from the Greek “kalé pólis” and means “beautiful town”. The “beautiful town” is divided into two parts: the historical centre and the “Borgo”, the most recent part of the city. The historical centre is located on a calcareous island and walking along its twisting alleyways you can admire different styles belonging to different historical ages. A long panoramic bridge on arches connects the island to the “Borgo” on the mainland, where there’s a fountain in Renaissance style (once believed to be a Greek-roman monument). Most of all Gallipoli is the right place if you’re looking for a clear sea, golden beaches or discos and beach bars where having lots of fun.
