Ugento stands on a hill overlooking the Ionian sea. The town is renowned especially for its seaside resorts: Torre San Giovanni, Torre Mozza, Lido Marini in fact boasts a beautiful clear sea and typical sand dunes that in summertime turn into a cheerful place for holidays. In Torre san Giovanni there is the most ancient watchtower of Salento that nowadays is used as a lighthouse. In town there some interesting buildings such as the Norman Castle, lovely small churches, menhirs and dolmens, a rupestrian church (Cripta del Crocifisso) and the ruins of Messapian city walls: that is what made Ugento a City Art in 2008. The town is interesting for nature lovers as well because here there is the Regional Park “Litorale di Ugento” rich of different and various natural environments.
