Storia comune di Crispiano provincia di Taranto

The place name is still unsure: some says it comes from the saints Crispo and Crispiniano, others say that it comes from the proper name “Crispius”. The territory was inhabited since the prehistoric era and also in Roman era. During the middle age it was property of some surrounding abbeys. From 14th century the inhabitants moved to Martina Franca and the territory was rent out to some families that built up the first “masserie”. But in 1794 four farmers from Martina Franca moved to that territory founding the current town of Crispiano.

Informazioni turistiche comune di Crispiano provincia di Taranto

Crispiano rises on a group of hills. It is renowned to be the “100 farmhouses town”: in fact the town and its countries are dotted with “masserie” (farmhouses) that have been united in a group for improving and promoting the territory through different routes: food and wine, archaeology, religion, wellness and “briganti” are just some examples of typical routes to follow. The territory is interesting also for the ravines and for Triglie, a rupestrian village.
