MARUGGIO Taranto (Puglia)
Sun and sea, Nature and welness
Maruggio is plunged into a valley surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. The town owns a seashore, Campomarino, that is one of the most popular place during summertime: its 9 km coast offers a clear sea and golden sand dunes. In the historic centre of Maruggio there are the most interesting buildings: Chiesa Matrice, built on a previous byzantine church, and Knights of Malta Castle, ordered in 1368 by Knights of Malta. All around Maruggio and on its seashore there are two watchtowers built during the period of Saracens’ invasions, Torre de’ Molini and Torre dell’Ovo.
