The patron saints of Maruggio are St. John the Baptist and St. Christopher, which is celebrated on July 13th and 14th. The cult of St. John the Baptist (San <em> Giuanni </ em>) as a protector of Maruggio was led by the Knights of Malta in the country since the venerated as the patron saint on June 24. The change of the date of the party stood by the bishop's decree of 30 June 1928.
