Palagiano is situated in the heart of “Conca d’Ora” (literally “Golden hollow), a so called plain area because of its richness in produce of the land. It is the most important farming centre of Taranto province and it is renowned especially for its citrus fruits. Palagiano it’s part of the “Ionian Ravines Park” and on its territory there is a biogenetic protected area (“Riserva naturale Stornara). Thanks to its position, the town has always been a meeting point for trades and cultures as well. Farming is definitely the most important activity and the fortified farms (“masserie”) spread all around the countries are a symbol of this ancient farming activity. In the historic centre it is possible to visit the rupestrian church of Santa Maria di Lenne, Chiesa di Maria SS. Annunziata and, few km away from the town, the Cozzo Marziotta archaeological site dating back to Iron Age.
